Centro Velico Caprera and We Will Care Onlus are among the protagonists of the 30th edition of theMario Formenton Trophy, the most fascinating sailing regatta of the summer, scheduled for 20 August. In an atmosphere of sharing and healthy competition, this event will see boats of all types and skippers of all levels competing in a spectacular course that from Porto Rafael winds for about 21 miles, between Barrettini, Budelli, Spargi, Punta Paganetto and Porto Pollo.
For the occasion, Centro Velico Caprera is lining up three boats on the starting line: One of these is taking part with an exceptional crew, made up of two of its instructors and four pupils who have been trained in sailing by taking part in the "Pazienti a Bordo" programme, the project created thanks to a collaboration with the Università Statale di Milano, the European Institute of Oncology and We Will Care Onlus, the association that promotes psychological support for cancer patients and their families, with the aim of developing cutting-edge methodologies for the emotional recovery of those who have experienced cancer.
"Patients on Board" combines a psychotherapy programme with the emotional impact of the sailing experience and the emotional and physical benefits of the extraordinary landscape of La Maddalena. The project demonstrates the possibility of an innovative psychological approach to treating cancer patients that uses the metaphors offered by sailing and the sea to work on the emotional reconstruction of the individual. The wind changes, the sea is unpredictable, but it is necessary to learn to stay on course: this is the spirit that must be adopted during the experience of illness in order to get through it and overcome it in the best possible way. And the success is demonstrated by this team's participation in the Trophy. In fact, the four students were able to confront themselves and the sea within the framework of the sailing school, thus being able to take part in one of the most exciting nautical events in Italy.
All that remains is to wait until 20 August to wish good wind to the Centro Velico Caprera teams, in the hope that its crews will distinguish themselves in the regatta area as they did during the last edition, when Centro Velico Caprera took first and second place in the Cruising category.
