A week to prepare for cruising, or three days to practice motor maneuvers. The Italian Yachting School ( Centro Velico Caprera ) offers new courses for those who already have experience on cabin cruisers and want to gain greater independence, with two courses that differ in duration, location, and objectives.
Skipper: A Week to Take the Helm
The Skipper course returns from October 10 to 17 and from October 17 to 24, 2026, with departure and return in Poltu Quatu, Sardinia.
This course is designed for those who are already familiar with sailing a cabin cruiser and want to prepare for a coastal cruise, and who—even though they hold a boat license—feel they need to build on their practical experience.
Over the course of seven days, aboard 35–40-foot boats typically used for charter, participants take on the various responsibilities of a skipper: taking charge of the boat, planning the itinerary, monitoring the weather, ensuring safety, managing the crew, and organizing the galley. In addition to navigation, the course covers sailing and motorboat maneuvers, entering and exiting ports, anchoring, and handling the most common emergencies.
The cadets take turns at the helm, putting their decision-making and crew coordination skills into practice.

Cabin-Equipped Boat Maneuvering: Three Days of Hands-On Practice
For those who want to delve deeper into a specific aspect of boating, the Cabinated Motorboat Maneuvering course is held at Marina Cala de’ Medici in Rosignano (LI). The next sessions are November 19–22, November 26–29 , and December 5–8, 2026.
The course focuses on maneuvering in confined waters, docking at the pier, and anchoring in the roadstead, with repeated exercises to better understand the boat’s behavior and the use of equipment. It also covers safety and emergency maneuvers, as well as basic engine knowledge useful in the event of minor breakdowns.
It is designed for those who already have sailing experience and wish to gain greater proficiency in these situations: enrollment is open to those who have completed the C3 course or higher, or through direct admission with a boat license.
The program includes three days of activities, with arrival on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. and departure on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. For the Feast of the Immaculate Conception long weekend, arrival is on the evening of Saturday, December 5, and the program concludes on the evening of Tuesday, December 8. Groups are limited to a maximum of six participants, and accommodations—included in the fee—are in the marina’s guesthouse, just a short walk from the boat.
