On show at the Statale in the first week of spring will be the testimonial images of a group of women who, together with their psychologists and the instructors of Centro Velico Caprera , have transformed sailing into an experience of profound emotional reconstruction after illness.
The wind changes, the sea is unpredictable, but we must learn to keep our course. And we have to do the same during the experience of illness in order to go through it and overcome it as best we can without letting it overwhelm us.
This is the message at the heart of the photographic exhibition "PATIENTS ON BOARD. A tale in pictures of women who know how to navigate in troubled waters" organised by Centro Velico Caprera and the State University of Milan, in collaboration with We Will Care Onlus.
The exhibition is part of the "Pazienti a bordo" (Patients on board) project, which started last summer in Caprera with an initial contribution from theEuropean Institute of Oncology (IEO) and is now funded by We Will Care, the non-profit organisation set up to offer free psychological support to cancer patients, enhancing their resources and autonomy at every stage of their treatment.
The second edition of "Patients on board", scheduled for next summer in Caprera, will be part of a scientific research project aimed at developing cutting-edge methods for the emotional recovery of those who have experienced cancer. It will involve 150 patients, who will be selected in the coming weeks. The participants will be hosted thanks to funds raised by We Will Care and the contribution of Centro Velico Caprera.
Interested patients can send an e-mail to info@wewillcare.it with their name, surname and telephone number and will be contacted for an initial interview.
The opening of the exhibition, which will take place on 21 March at 5.30 p.m., is preceded by a press conference - also on 21 March, but at 10.30 a.m. in the Sala di Rappresentanza - in which the patients will participate together with the rector Gianluca Vago, Paolo Martano, president of Centro Velico Caprera, and Josefa Idem, world and Olympic canoe champion. Moderator: Gabriella Pravettoni.
